Mourning Jimi and Fifi has a new Boyfriend

From the

Diary as of 2/18 – 2/25/2014

2/18   The mornings are the worst: first thought after waking is that we will never see Jimi again.

I am still in a state of shock, feeling ripped apart. My face is aching from all the crying that does not stop. We buried Jimi yesterday besides Emily and Baby Flea. This is at least some comfort that he is not alone and we can come back whenever we want to and talk to them…

Everything is still so unreal. Look at them, Jimi and Fifi – this was 3 days ago (the day before Jimi died):

0215x0002jimfi
0215x0003jimfi
0215x0006jimi

I am glad though that I have these photos – they are showing that nothing could be foreseen…

2/19   Fifi has laid an egg – it is egg#17 but I don’t think that she will sit on it. But life goes on and the body functions continue…

Micky also laid her second egg# 42.

2/20   I am still waking up each morning crying. These are the worst moments when the memory is coming back that no koala bear will be waddling around the corner any more… During the day it is getting easier when things need to be done and when Pina is playing her tricks again or Rudi is annoyed when the others eat HIS personal food! Fifi is doing well so far. Thank heaven she has stopped crying (this was the worst – to hear her crying all the time). She is eating well and is jumping on my knees whenever she is eating. She also has started to have that funny conversation with me again where she makes those little smacking sounds with her beak. She has laid an egg yesterday but is not sitting on it. I wonder whether she will lay another one. She is even making love with Rudi to the big dismay of Pina of course who is getting very jealous. But what can I do? Fifi is courted by all the other males on the balcony as well. I wonder how this will continue? Of course Fifi will be part of our family as long as she wishes to. I really hope that she is staying here.

2/21   Fifi‘s laid her second egg #18 to my surprise but she is not breeding. I decided to exchange the eggs anyway with plaster eggs and let them in her house for a while. Maybe she loves to sit on them now and then. And it shows any curious visitors that the house is occupied even when Fifi is “on the road”.

Today I thought Fifi has a new boyfriend. A nearly black pigeon was sitting on the roof of Fifi’s house and courting Fifi. But then I realized that he was not calling Fifi to join him but his wife. What a perfidious couple!!! I cannot believe it. They try to chase Fifi out of her home with nasty tricks. I am not going to tolerate that of course. I promised Jimi to take care of his wife.

2/22   I cannot tell you how much I miss Jimi. I am crying each day whenever the memory comes back. I feel totally lost. And it is so unfair. Just when Jimi was feeling so well and happy he had to go. I cannot understand this.

2/23   I am dreading Sundays. They are terrible. They make me cry again. When will this stop?

2/24   Life on the balcony continues of course. Amanda has laid her first egg #1 here now.  I forgot to tell you that Sandy took his beautiful daughter as his new mate. What a wonderful couple. I gave them a new house made from a small plastic box with a real entry and a roof. They have their own home now and they are very happy. Sandy has become very nice and he gets on very well with the other residents now.  Sometimes there is a little dispute here and there with Woody or Lucky but nothing serious. They are all family now. What a comfort!

2/25   Pina went on her nest tonight.

Life can be so unfair soemtimes and although I have learned to accept certain things after a while I am also so disappointed and desperate in others because I truly do not understand the sense behind it. It is simply cruel and unfair.  I am still mourning Jimi a lot and will do so forever because the hole he left can never be filled again but I also feel some comfort in watching the others and their antics.

Finally Loki and Lotti are living on the balcony also. I have tried to chase them off for so long. I have given up. And Sandy – well he managed to stay here as well. After he was left by his wife due to canker he found a new mate: his daughter Amanda. Can you believe this? We have a red couple here now – the only one in our area. I gave them their own house and Amanda already laid 2 eggs. Loki and Lotty will get their own house next week. These buggers have well utilized my current weakness for their own advantage.

On the other hand it has become surprisingly quiet on the balcony now because all these residents now chase off any other foreign pigeon. Which of course is good for me because of the neighbours. Altogether we have now 6 couples living on the balcony!!! Can you imagine? Ahhh – I forgot – Fifi HAS a new boyfriend. Whether he, Oliver, will become her real mate – is too early to say. But Fifi is doing very well. She seemed to have found a way to carry on with her normal life.

One of the blackest Days: Jimi went to the Rainbow

Filed under: birds,bite,broken beak,documentary,Fifi,INJURIES,Jimi,new egg,PIGEON,sad — pigeonwriter @ 11:02 am

This is the update of an entry I dreaded most. That’s why it took me so long to write it down and there were some other, very unpleasant events with my complaining neighbours since the last update. I had to get my thoughts in order again…

From the

Diary as of 2/14 – 2/17/2014

2/14   Betty laid her second egg #10.

2/15   Maggy laid also – it’s egg #37. As usual a perfect little egg. As well as Micky, her’s is #

2/16   Today is one of the blackest days in my life: JIMI IS GONE. He flew over the rainbow. My darling boy, Emily’s and Pete’s son, was called to join his parents in heaven. It is a nightmare or worse than that because I will not wake up again from this.

Jimi was doing very well in the last few weeks. He was healthy and in good mood. During the last week he was heavily cuddling with Fifi again and appeared so very happy that I did not suspect anything at all. Yesterday morning he came in together with Fifi for breakfast. They jumped on my knees and were happily feeding together. After that they left together, flew up to their house and continued cuddling and grooming each other. A picture of utmost harmony.

1010x0005jimfi

1010x0009jimfi

1010x0011jimfi

I was busy myself and had some work to do inside. Short before lunchtime I heard some tumult outside, saw Jimi flying from his house to the balustrade, apparently chasing some other pigeons and then he went back to his house. In this very moment I realized – when I was looking upwards – that he somehow was gaping for air and his head was dangling downwards. I immediately grabbed the ladder, grabbed Jimi who closed his eyes in this moment – forever. I held a lifeless bird in my arms. It took me hours – so it seemed – to realize that he was really gone. My beautiful angel bird was gone…

In June he would have been 6 years old.

I cannot tell you really what I feel. It is as if I have lost a child, as if someone has torn my soul and body into pieces. There was so much love between this bird and me, a very special bond. When he looked into my eyes I had the feeling that he knew any thought I had in my head. He understood every word I was telling him. He knew before I was telling him, be it some trivial things or how much I loved him. And he loved me. There was something unearthly about this. Since he had returned to live on our balcony (when his mother Emily had died) the bond became more and more intense.

Jimi was not really a pigeon whom you could cuddle like a real pet – he did not like to be touched besides when he was sick. But he was extremely trustful and sometimes perched on the bed just beside me watching tv or on the carpet near me like a little poudle.

1025x0014jimi

When he was not feeling well and this happened many times he came inside and stayed in our bedroom and even sometimes spent the night inside until he was feeling well again. Fifi – his mate – accepted his strange behaviour – she always knew that Jimi was not far away. Now she is mourning, calling for him all day long. I feel so helpless.

When Fifi came last year to us, with a nasty injury from a bite, they both fell in love with each other. Jimi was so happy.

0601x0002fifijimi

0716x0001jimfi

0716x0002jimfi

0730x0068jimi

It was the second time that he found a mate here in our home.  And when I built them their own house on the balcony life seemed to be perfect for them. Finally Jimi had all the luck and happiness he did not have for so long. He was only 1 1/2 years old when he caught PMV. He recovered completely but had several severe relapses, when he could not eat by himself any more and where he came home to seek help each time. And then he had this terrible fight after recovering from a PMV relaspe just the very day when we released him.

0324x0010jimi

0324x0014jimi

Apparently some bossy pigeon had taken Jimi’s home and Jimi fought for it.  He was injured so badly – his whole face covered in blood – that he nearly died. His upper beak was broken, his lower beak and chin completely chewed up with various holes and then the whole mouth was so swollen that he hardly could open it. With his last energy left he came home to seek help. After many weeks of healing process and staying inside he recovered again and so met Fifi.

0512x0004jimi

0512x0009jimi

Jimi always was a lonesomer somehow. He always rather stayed with us than socializing with other pigeons. He already was like this as a baby. He never flew around much but was rather perching somewhere where no-one did disturb him so my thought is that he might have had a weak heart from the beginning – just like humans sometimes. And now, after all these bad things that happened to him, it was finally too much for his little heart.

0216x0016jimi

Jimi left for the rainbow, peacefully without pain, flying now with his mother and his father, a beautiful angel with a heart that will never stop beating again for his loved ones and helping Fifi to get over these hard times. I promised him to take care for her as long as she needs it…

2/17   Woke up during the night several times. Felt that pain and could hardly breathe. My partner woke up as well, feeling his heart pounding heavily with the first thought about Jimi being gone…

Today we buried our beloved feathered angel Jimi besides his mother Emily and Baby Flea in our favourite forest. My heart is broken because Jimi left without the slightest pre-warning and I do not understand yet what has happened. I am currently in a state of shock and feel like being ripped apart…

Gino has overcome his Trauma and Sandy tries to overtake the Balcony

Filed under: behaviour,Betty,birds,coupling,Fifi,funny,Gino,Jimi,new egg,PIGEON — pigeonwriter @ 8:03 pm

I am far behind my posts again because many things happened in the meanwhile. But I am continuing in chronological order although it is very hard for me at the moment to write about Jimi after we have lost him. But these stories must be told because I love the birdies all so much and in some way remembering the stories of the lost ones is comforting …

From the

Diary as of 11/29 – 12/15/2013

11/29   Gino is his old self again and literally shovelling the food into his mouth. What a little bugger but apparently he still has a trauma from his babyhood where he was left by his parents – I assume that his mother died and his father – QuakQuak – could not support him alone. So it was the time when the snow came and the big cold when he nearly died if he had not come to us for help. Last year it was just the same – when the snow came Gino became sick with canker. So this means for me that he has a trauma connected with snow. None of the other pijjies became sick. Poor little baby…

11/30   Betty is sitting on the same plaster eggs now the 42nd day! Apparently she is not willing to start a new breeding cycle at the moment. What a clever bird. She probably thinks why should I leave my comfortable and warm house when it is cold outside and Lucky apparently thinks and feels the same as he takes his turn on the eggs as usual.

12/1   I forgot to tell about Jimi: since the temperatures dropped he leaves earlier – early in the afternoon instead of in the evening and he then takes his turn on the eggs again to give Fifi the opportunity to fly a few rounds. But he does this only if the weather is okay. If it is too ugly he stays inside until the evening. Fifi does not seem to have a problem with this. She often comes inside for a quick snack and goes straight away back to her plaster eggs. Isn’t this cute?

12/4   Today Jimi went out early: at 11°clock already. Apparently he wanted to give his wife some more freedom to fly around etc.

12/5   Jimi is regularly now taking his turn to sit on the eggs. And Fifi is happy of course. Instead of having a quick snack now and then she finally can rumage the buffet again. Btw – she has become quite self confident and defends “her” place on my knees against anyone who has the privilege of eating there instead of with the rest of the “mob”.

12/9   Nothing really new besides the fact that the weather is quite nice.

12/11   Rudi has started to work like a berserk again: collecting nest material = cardboard stripes. I hardly could keep up with him cutting new ones.

12/12   Pina is on her nest in the evening. Wonder whether she will lay during the night but I don’t believe so. Will check in the morning. If she has not laid I’ll give her a plaster egg immediately to keep her stress level down.

12/13   As assumed Pina has not laid – so I put a plaster egg under her little belly. Now she is content again.

12/14   Fifi is off her plaster eggs and heavily cuddling with Jimi again. So their love life functions as usual and I love to watch them sitting either on the roof of their house, grooming each other or both together inside.

1010x0009jimfi

1010x0011jimfi

1011x0024jimfi

1011x0025jimfi

12/15   Sandy and Adele are still nerving. Since weeks they try to overtake the balcony and build their nest there. And although I like Sandy and Adele for their self confidence I cannot allow them to stay here. I have to chase them off but they come back again and again instead of investing their energy in looking for a new place – sigh. They are a beautiful couple and their babies were gorgeous but they cannot stay. Sandy’s red daughter Amanda tries to nest on the balcony as well – so you see they want to start a new dynasty. But only over my dead body!!! So I probably still need a lot of perseverance to “convince”  them to look for their own home. But it is truly hard work and I am not very successful. These little buggers know quite well that I would never hurt them so I  believe they are laughing about me behind my back…

1028x0033sanade

Loki and Lotti are trying the same again. For a while they were gone and only came for feeding but now they are back – apparently they have lost their nesting place again – and try to nest on our balcony again. Oh my – why the heck do they all want to stay here???? We are full already!!!!

After Fifi has finally left her plaster eggs as well Jimi is staying together with her again outside. So regular family life is taking place again and it is a joy to watch them cuddling together on the roof of their house. They stay there more or less for the whole day as Jimi does not want to fly out for whatever reasons. He also does not want to come inside in order to spend his time in our bedroom – he rather stays together with his wife. So their relationship has NOT cooled down as I feared.

Betty is sitting on the same Plaster Eggs since 38 Days and Gino has Canker

From the

Diary as of 11/23 – 11/28/2013

11/23   Feeding time – this morning the usual chaos in my livingroom again but I truly don’t mind. I love watching them how they line up neatly and tug their little heads next to one another into the wooden food boxes. And then  you hear only “tuck tuck tuck tuck” besides some chitter chatter when the beaks touch the wood of the food boxes. I REALLY HAVE TO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THIS. Looks sooo funny but I need more light not the terrible darkness we have at the moment…

11/24   Jimi is still always the first I let inside because he hates all the chaos and wants his peace. He then waddles into our bedroom where he has his own place and his food bowels. He is always the one who needs time for everything and he hates to be in a hurry. After eating he flies to his place on the bookshelf and stays there until late in the afternoon. Poor Fifi is alone for the whole day but apparently she can cope with this because she can come inside to eat something any time and does not need to leave the (plaster-)eggs for a longer time. Strange behaviour of Jimi – isn’t it?

He does not want to fly outside – maybe it’s his tumor, that is still in his chest, that disturbs him but on the other hand he is eating with very good appetite and his poops are perfect. He loves to listen to classical music that runs for the whole day and loves to be in our presence. So he seems to be absolutely content and happy.

Already as a child Jimi was different – he preferred to be alone rather than together with the others. In the late afternoon he indicates that he wants to leave, takes a long drink from the warm water bowl which I always prepare extra for him (he loves warm vinegar soup – lol) and then flies to his house, greets his wife and settles down for the night. And Fifi seems to accept his behaviour. Well – this is obviously the agreement between them: she has a house, regular meals and drinks. And love from time to time… Just like a marriage contract. Funny – isn’t it?

11/26   Betty is sitting on the same plaster eggs since 38 days now!!!

11/27   Gino came in this morning with that typical sad look where I know immediately that something is wrong. He did not start eating instantly as he usually does, was quiet instead of doing his usual chit-chat but sat on the edge of the cardboard wall and started vomiting heavily. So I grabbed him and after a thorough check and a look into his mouth I knew it was canker. There were no yellow nodules to be seen but his mouth was bright red on one side instead of his usual pink. So I gave him a Spartrix pill and prepared quickly Pina’s box to put him inside. I also gave him a warm water bottle and soon he settled down and looked quite content, knowing that Mommy would help him. He did not vomit again but his poop looked like that typical canker poop, dark green, mushy-slimy – yuck!

11/28   After apparently a good night sleep Gino looked much better in the morning. I gave him another Spartrix pill and he then indicated that he wanted to go out again. I let him and he flew immediately to his house where he and his wife Micky greeted each other with so much joy, dancing around each other and being happy that their world was okay again. It was so sweet. The day before Micky had come in for a quick snack several times – apparently she knew exactly where Gino was and did not seem to feel nervous about his where-abouts at all and that he did not take his turn on the eggs. Now everything was okay again, Gino went straight into his house to sit on the eggs and Micky could fly out again. What a happy couple!

And here is one of the rare photos I have of Lucky and Betty:

Rudi is working like a Berserk and Jimi loves Vinegar Soup

From the

Diary as of 11/1 – 11/22/2013

11/1   I am still pissed off because of the damage on my little car. Hopefully the insurance will handle this with generosity – ahem… (they did not!!!)

11/2   Fifi, Maggie and Micky should have been leaving their plaster eggs by now but they didn’t. I can understand – it is nicer to sit in the house than having to run around outside although the weather is still quite nice!!!

11/3   Gave Jimi his vitamin pill and the ladies got their usual extra calcium.

11/4   The weather is still unusually mild and I just love it because my balcony still looks like a garden with some plants blooming still.

1113x0058

1113x0059

The pijjies of course love this too and they perch on various places to collect some sunshine.

1002x0002chicks

Jimi seems to feel a bit better again but his tumor is still there. Poor baby – I really hope that this is coming off soon. It’s been too long now. At least his beautiful head and face is restored again from the moult.

11/5   It would be Pina’s and Betty’s time now to leave the plaster eggs but they did not either. What’s up with these ladies? On strike???? In fact I am glad about this delay because any additional day is better for the body and to sit on eggs is so relaxing – isn’t it?

11/6   Pina got her extra vitamin pill today.

11/7   Maggie finally decided to leave her plaster eggs and is cuddling with her Woodie again.

11/8   Now Micky and Fifi left her plaster eggs also. Everybody is copying the other – why are they always doing the same at the same time? Competition? Jealousy? Very funny!

11/10   Calcium and vitamin day again: Betty and Pina got their calcium and Jimi his pill. There is a pause – regarding calcium – for Micky and Maggie because they do not sit on their eggs any more and I don’t want to stress them uneccessarily with catching them for their syringe. I have to wait until they sit on new eggs again.

11/12   Maggie, Micky and Fifi should have been laying by now but there is no new egg yet.

11/13   We have chaos time again: Micky and Gino are in mating mode, Woodie and Maggie are in mating mode, Jimi and Fifi are more or less (rather less) in mating mode and Pina and Rudi are in mating mode as well. Betty is still sitting on her plaster eggs but then she did lay later than the others. Chasing mode is now the program and you can certainly imagine what this means especially when 20 more hungry mouths want to have breakfast at the same time in our livingroom!!!

11/14   Rudi is working like a berserk. He carried every little cardboard stripe I had cut on the closet until Pina sat on a heap of cardboard stripes, orderly put in a circle, like the princess on the pea – lol. Unfortunately I have no photo – should think about it the next time. It is really funny and very sweet. I am always amazed by Rudi’s incredible condition. It is not easy for a bird of his size and weight (420 gr) to fly vertically from the floor to the top of the closet just beneath the ceiling. And this much more than a hundred times!!!! But he does not stop until he has snatched the very last stripe for his princess.

11/15    Okay – Maggie, Micky and Pina decided that it is egg laying time: Maggie laid her first egg #31 and Micky laid egg #35. Pina went to her new nest but again she did not lay so I gave her a plaster egg anyway to keep her stress level down.

11/16   Now it would have been Betty’s turn to lay new eggs but she is on strike so far. She seems to love her home much more than producing babies and probably thinks that the eggs she is sitting on are enough. Probably she knows exactly by now that there will be no babies and she is enjoying her peace in Emma’s house. (It will always be Emma’s house). And Lucky seems to enjoy his time on the plaster eggs also. Apparently he has become lazy as well.

11/17   Micky laid her second egg #36, Maggie hers #32 and Fifi laid her first egg now #11.

11/18   Today we drove to the forest again and visited Emma’s and Flea’s grave. There must have been some creatures digging at the place because we detected some holes and the moss I had put additionally on top was thrown aside. I only hope that not all of the crocusses will be eaten by mice and that something will bloom next spring.

11/19   Fifi laid her second egg #12. Normally I am exchanging the eggs when the second has been laid. This time I will wait a few more days before I exchange Fifi’s eggs to see whether they are fertilized. Due to Jimi’s strange behaviour I doubt that they are because I have not seen Jimi coupling with his wife once. But I may be wrong of course.

Jimi is always the first I let inside each morning because he hates all the chaos created by the others and rather wants his peace. He then waddles into our bedroom where he has his own place and his food bowels. He is always the one who needs time for everything and he hates to be in a hurry. After eating he flies to his place on the bookshelf and stays there until late in the afternoon. Poor Fifi is alone for the whole day and sitting on the eggs but apparently she can cope with this because she can come inside to eat something any time and does not need to leave the (plaster-)eggs for a longer time. Strange behaviour of Jimi – isn’t it? It was different at the beginning of their relationship but now he leaves her alone for the whole day.

I must admit though that it looks very comfortable how he is perching on our bed – much nicer than outside:

1228x0002jimi

1228x0003jimi

0104x0013jimi

0104x0015jimi

Jimi does not want to fly outside – maybe it’s his tumor, that is still in his chest, that disturbs him but on the other hand he is eating with very good appetite and his poops are perfect. His movements are completely normal and he has no difficulties to fly up to his house. There have been other times where he was terribly weak. But currently he is doing very well. He loves to listen to classical music that runs for the whole day and loves to be in our presence. So he seems to be absolutely content and happy.

Already as a child Jimi was different, a lonesomer.  He preferred to be alone rather than together with the others. In the late afternoon he indicates that he wants to leave, takes a long drink from the warm water bowl which I always prepare extra for him (he loves warm vinegar soup – lol) and then flies up to his house, greets his wife and settles down for the night. And Fifi  – she seems to accept his behaviour. Well – this is the agreement between them: she has a house, regular meals and drinks. Just like a marriage contract. Funny – isn’t it?

11/20   Vitamin day: Pina and Jimi got their special vitamin pill (a vitamin B-complex) again.

11/21   Pijjies were very hungry again and could hardly wait until I let them inside. Temperatures are quite low now but still no frost.

11/22   Today Jimi decided to go out a bit earlier than usual – he took a long sip from the warm vinegar water bowl and then flew straight onto the roof of his house, greeted his wife Fifi and settled for the night. What a special character!

Egg laying Time and Jimi plays Easter Bunny

Filed under: birds,coupling,documentary,Jimi,Maggie,Micky,moult,new egg,PIGEON,Pina,Rudi — pigeonwriter @ 9:00 am

From the

Diary as of 10/14 – 10/31/2013

10/14   Soon it will be egg laying time again. The males all work hard to fil the nests with new nesting material. Woodie, Gino and Jimi are in a kind of competition who’s gonna have the most of the cardboard stripes. It is very funny to watch them…

10/15   Maggie laid her first egg #29 and Micky her’s too, egg #33. In both cases the eggs were pretty small. Strange…

10/16   Today Fifi laid her first egg #9. Unbelievable that this is already the 5th breeding cycle that they are here.

10/17   Maggie laid her second egg #30 and Micky her’s, egg #34. Again both eggs were quite small. Does this have any significance? Probably not.

Today I gave Jimi extra calcium because he is moulting heavily now and gave Pina her first Vitamin B complex pill. I hope that this will solve her feather problems – missing feathers in her face.

Look at poor Jimi – he looks like a little vulture now:

1017x0004jimi
1017x0005jimi
1017x0006jimi
1017x0007jimi

10/18   Fifi laid her second egg #10. Also she was laying small eggs but she is so young still.

Pina went to her nest in the evening. I wonder whether she will lay this time again.

10/19   Pina did NOT lay. So I put a plaster egg into her nest so that she does not get into stress. This way their family life works as if everything were as usual. Pina is content and Rudi is content as well – he apparently loves to sit on eggs – lol.

Betty laid her first egg #7. It was a perfect little egg.

10/20   Today is calcium day again: each pigeon girl gets her extra Calcivet drops and also Jimi for his moult. I have also started to give them vitamins again once a week – we call it soda pop day as preparation for the cold season. It is wonderfully mild at the moment still but winter will come eventually.

10/21   Visited Emily’s and Flea’s grave again in the forest to check out whether it was still okay. A few weeks ago I had planted some crocus around the place and I wanted to see whether the wild animals had digged through the place but everything seemed to be untouched. We will see whether they will bloom in spring – I really hope so.

Betty laid her second perfect little egg #8.

10/22   I am still worried a bit about Jimi because of his tumor/lump in his chest. That thing is huge and I wonder how long it will take still until it falls off. It must be very uncomfortable for Jimi and I think he feels some pain from time to time because he has problems with flying from the balustrade to his house underneath the ceiling. There is not much space to maneuvre though and Jimi is really a large bird. Fifi is much smaller and can do it without problems. But I have no other space where I could hang Jimi’s house unfortunately.

Jimi is eating  and drinking well though – so I probably should not worry too much but he is not flying around. He never was fond of socialising a lot with the other pijjies – already as a baby he rather preferred to be alone or near me to enjoy his peace. Therefore he got the nickname “Jimi – the philosopher”. But other than his problem with the tumor he seems to be quite happy,  having a regular family life with his beloved Fifi, having a house for himself which he does not need to defend against any intruders.

He is always the first to come inside in the early morning and is then walking straight into our bedroom where he has his foodbox with all the goodies, something to drink and the sandbox with grit and sand and his pickstone which he loves so much. There he can forage on everything he loves without being disturbed by anyone. He has a large window with plants outside where he can watch the other pijjies but still have his own peace. He loves to listen to the classical music which runs during the whole morning until he leaves again to take his turn sitting on the eggs. Isn’t this cute???

10/23   Gave Jimi and Pina their Vitamin B-complex pill.

10/25   Jimi has started to play the Easter rabbit on our bed during the morning just like Gino used to do when he was a baby still. He, Jimi, finally discovered how warm and cozy it is when he can perch on the bed. And he suddenly looks so small.

10/26   All had their bath again today. As long as it is that mild and sunny I put the bathtub outside and another one inside for Jimi, Pina and Rudi. Sometimes Micky prefers to take her bath inside as well – this way she remains undisturbed and the water stays clean – lol. She is very picky.

10/27   Today the weather is rainy and autumn has returned – thank heaven not winter. Last year at this time we had snow already and the temperatures were freezing. This year I have still some of my room plants on the balcony and my nasturtium is still blooming! Even my angels trumpet which I planted this year for the first time (from a little shoot which I bought at the supermarket for 2 bucks and that was just 30 cm high) is still growing – now about 1,2 m high – and has even more buds waiting for  opening. I would never have thought that this tiny thing would even bloom this year after it took till midth of October to open the first blossom. Right now the 6th blossom is about to open. The perfume of these blossoms is incredible – like that of a rose with a very heavy frangrance. I keep this plant behind a net – secure from the pigeons – to their safety also because I know it is very poisenous.

Jimi played Easter bunny in our bedroom again and all the others were very naughty again. We had calcium day today and I gave Jimi one of the vitamin-B-complex pills again. I hope this helps with his tumor. Other than that he was quite in good mood and eating with great appetite and his feathers are growing again. Soon he will be my beautiful little koala bear again!

10/28   Jimi still plays Easter bunny in our bedroom after he has taken his breakfast. Funny how he discovered now something Gino knew from the beginning when he was still a baby: it is extremely comfortable to perch on the soft bed on a warm cover than anywhere else!

Jimi is still moulting:

10/31   Had a car accident today: after 13 years of not having a single little scratch on my little car some idiot ran with his car into mine because he did not pay attention what was going on in front of him. Instead he had to gawk because there had been an accident before on the crossroads where I had to turn to the right . That stupid idiot bumped fully into my car. Thank heaven there was still the police present who witnessed what this jerk did! I can tell you  I HATE THESE GAWKERS!!!

Thank heaven nothing happened to my partner nor myself – I only realized that I had a little shock and was trembling when we were home.

From the

Diary as of 9/12 – 9/24/2013

9/12    Today everybody is going crazy: Gino is chasing Micky, Woody is chasing Maggie and Jimi is chasing Fifi. They are all in mating mode and adding a huge chaos to the balcony life. I really don’t understand why they are always getting this crazy and therefore wasting lots of energy.

I am used to Gino chasing Micky around when they are in coupling mode. They always come running inside, through the whole appartment into the bedroom and then coming running out again or flying like the bats from hell. You can only duck your head and jump aside – otherwise you will be run over. But I did not know that Jimi is doing the same. Poor Fifi was chased the whole day – both hardly got something to eat and this is happening while the weather is really awful, cold and wet. As I said – I don’t understand why they are wasting that much energy.

9/13   Lotti laid another egg on the floor of the balcony. When will she stop doing this. It hurts me when I have to take the egg away and destroy the nest. But I definitely cannot let her breed here.

9/14   Today was Rudi’s weighing day. I haven’t done this for a long long time. The scales said  418 gr. This was less than I expected because he looks heavy because of his body structure – lol. So I need not worry that he might need a diet – oh my.

9/15   Maggie laid her first egg #27 and also Fifi laid her first egg #7. The other ladies will probably follow soon.

Today was weighing day for Maggie and Micky. It is always good to know from time to time what the normal weight of the pijjies is. Maggie’s showed 383 gr which is quite a lot. I always thought that she was much lighter. Every time when I grabbed her to give her extra Calcium I thought she must be quite light. Micky was 355 gr which also was a bit more than I anticipated. It is obvious that you can be at fault very easily.

9/16   Micky laid her first egg also – it’s #31. She also lays like a clock.

9/17   The round is nearly full:  Maggie laid her second egg #28 and Fifi hers #8.

Our pijjies are still in heavy moulting mode. The back of the head of poor Jimi is completely bold – my beautiful little koala bear looks ridiculous and his tail consists of merely a few ragged feathers only. He stays on the balcony or inside for the whole day at the moment. No wonder…but as he has a regular family life now with mate and his own house he seems to be quite content.

9/18   It’s not finished yet: today Micky laid her second egg as well – #32

I only wonder what Pina is going to do. She went on her nest this evening and tomorrow we will see whether she picks up her regular egg laying business again.

9/19   When I checked Pina’s nest this morning there was NO EGG. So I gave her immediately a plaster egg again in order to avoid that she would have stress again. Both, Rudi and Pina, behaved as if Pina had laid an egg without any problems and took on their nest sitting turns.

9/20   Everything as usual. It has become much calmer now that all the ladies are sitting on their nests. The chaotic chasing around by the boys has finally stopped.

9/21   I checked Pina‘s nest this morning again: there is was – a new egg! It was strangely longish again but other than that quite okay. It is #82. I replaced it immediately with a plaster egg. I honestly doubt that it was fertilized.

9/22   Betty is late with her egg laying but I am glad about this. The ladies should relax and not be in stress with egg production all the time. Day by day Betty becomes a bit less shy which is good. I don’t like her to feel anxious in our group. She is a valuable member now. Her nest is clean and prepared.

9/23   Betty laid today her first egg #5. It was small but perfect. Maggie’s eggs are huge in comparison.

Drove to our favourite forest today and visited Emily’s and Flea’s grave. The place looked a bit sad because due to the drought during the summer the ferns looked a bit desolate but they will grow again. I planted quite a lot of crocus around the place and I hope that the animals of the forest won’t eat everything so that next spring we will have some colours at Emily’s and Flea’s place.

9/24   Gave them all a bath today again. The weather was really nice and mild and the sun shining. Soon I had my first customers: Lucky of course. And of course he insisted in having his bathtub for himself alone. Even Jimi took a bath although he is not the big bather among our gang but he seemed to enjoy it fully!

Gino was clever: Lucky did not let him take a bath so he came inside when I called him and he realized immediately that there was also a bathtub which I had prepared for Rudi and Pina inside. Now Gino went into it straight away and had his fun with getting completely soaked. Oh my…
