The Daily News from New York about this year’s Pigeon Day gave readers the opportunity to comment on pigeons.

The following link I would like to include to the diary because it says so much and made me cry actually:

I had the pleasure of ‘nursing’ a baby pigeon back to health recently after I found it stranded in an alley and too young to fly. I learned so much about these absolutely gorgeous creatures that I fell in love with them. I brought the baby to a pigeon rehabilitation to be properly cared for and brought up in the company of other pigeons but it was hard to let her go because she had bonded so beautifully with me. After only the first two feedings, she began to coo at me and shake her wings everytime I approached her and she wanted to be held and groomed. She was so trusting and sweet that it touched me on a very deep level. Pigeons are actually ‘rock doves’ and they are not rats, or vermin or dirty or anything like that. They are animals who have a right, just like all animals (ehem, humans are animals too) to live in peace with respect and dignity. Unfortunately for them, too many of them suffer at the hands of humans who believe they are ‘cleaner’, ‘superior’, ‘more entitled’.”

I can only hope that much more people make this experience and change their mind about these wonderful birds!

  1. Yes, I have the same experience. I´ve found a little pigeon twice! Me and my boyfriend became both fond on pigeons, they are soo sweet, funny, and interesting animals. I used to observe them every while I can:-)
