Emma – the Torro

From the

Diary as of 12/8/ – 12/14/08

It is very cold now but still “our pigeons” are all in good shape, having their breakfast each morning still. I walk outside to the balcony balustrade with 3 or 4 little saucers full of sunflower seeds, put them on the balustrade and one after another of “our” piggies is coming to have their breakfast.

Williy and Winnie love to have my company while they are feeding because otherwise Pete would chase them away. This way they can be sure to get their share. It is so sweet to see them just in front of me eating while I have my elbows on the balustrade. Jimi and Joey are still like cat and dog, and Willi and Jimi do not love each other neither – I think Jimi still remembers that Willy has bitten him when he was still very very young but maybe that will change one day too….

Look in the background – Pete is coming like a steamroller and everbody tries to escape – so Willy and Winnie ( in front) need me as their bastion against Pete – their father!

Emma still has her habit of chasing the girls mainly on the balustrade and this goes like this: like a wild bull she lowers her head and stretching it forward and then runs as quickly as she can towards her opponent – it looks like one of those Spanish torros in the arena when they attack the torrero. I have never seen this behaviour with another pigeon. The point is – as petite as she is – she always succeeds even with pigeons that are almost twice her size. I think it’s the moment of surprise she uses – she is an excellent tactician and sometimes even a bit perfidious because she waits a couple of seconds, sitting sitting side by side with her opponent and then suddenly attacks!
Yes – this is Emma!

But when you see her canoodling with Pete and how she is adored by him – sometimes he is really submissive to her – then you forget her a little mean character easily  😛

  1. Hey my appologies on the post about how stupid pigeons are. I guess they just like to give meat and tomato’s piggy back rides 😛

  2. The piggies accept your apologies – they are used to being misunderstood and misjudged – LOL
