Leaving the Nest…

From the

Diary as of 7/16/08

Winnie, the older of the two new babies, left the nest for the first time!

Parents are now feeding very often – it is the time to lure the babies out of the nest as often as possible. They need to learn what’s in their neighbourhood 😯 .

Both, Winnie and Jimi are walking on the balcony floor now for the first time. I put them there so that they can train their leg muscles. They love it, to be out of the boring nest and see something completely new and having some freedom. It is so funny to watch them how they check out everything with such big curiosity and each day now their circles become bigger and bigger. After a couple of minutes – when I have the feeling they’ve had enough – I put them back into the nest=flowerpot.

In the meanwhile – as you can see from the photos – I have put a piece of cartonage into the flowerpot which serves not only as wind and rain shield but also protects the babies from falling out of the  nest if they are too curious. Would be an awful thought if anything would happen to them…

Emma does not sleep in the nest any more – instead she sleeps near the nest. I prepared her a nice place. Pete normally never sleeps on the balcony – I don’t know but he is flying away each evening.

Look at these adorable little buggers:

Look into this face – it’s Jimi’s

and this one is Winnie with the little white spot on his head.

  1. Why live with pigeons? There’s danger you know,
Can’t adopt , just one, the craving will grow

    There’s no doubt they’re addictive
    Wherein lies the danger,
    While living with lots ,you!
    Grow poorer (and stranger?)
One pigeon is so funny, and two are no trouble The more the merrier, they’re all so delightful. The trird is a honey, the fourth one’sa breeze, you can live ina house full, with the greatest of ease. So how bout another – or two if you must? They’re really quite lasy ,But ,O Lord, the dust. With pigeons on forniture, and pigeons in bed, And their toys and things:”It’s no Bother , you’re said…

  2. Hi Tanya – thank you so much for this adorable little poem 😛 – it is absolutely sweet and sooo true – I am afraid – 😀
Slowly I think our pigeons have taken over our home – but I would never in my life want to miss these experiences, fun and happiness to have them around…

  3. TWO PIGEON MEETING IN THE SKY.
TWO LOVES HAND IN HAND EYE TO EYE .
TWO PARTS OF A LOVING WHOLE,
TWO HEARTS AND A SINGLE SOUL.
TWO STARS SHINING BIG AND BRIGHT,
TWO FIRES BRINGING WARMTH AND LIGHT.
TWO SONGS PLAYED IN PERFECT TUNE ,
    TWO FLOWERS GROWING INTO BLOOM.
TWO DOVES GLIDING IN THE AIR ,
TWO DOVES LOVES FREE WITHOUT A CARE.
TWO PARTS OF A LOVING WHOLE ,
TWO HEARTS AND A SINGLE SOUL..
