Picking like a Chickin…

From the

Diary as of 7/14/08

Emma has laid another egg – ANOTHER ONE!!!! Is she a breeding machine or what? This is getting weird. Pete is working like crazy to collect all kinds of sticks and plant parts. He is REALLY working hard the whole day. And – this time they built a real nest on the edge of the balcony floor. But they chose a bad place for this because it will be totally wet when it rains. Oh boy – what shall I do? Not another set of pigeon babies on the balcony while the other are not even grown up yet…

Willy and Joey start to conquer their “sleeping glasses” again.

Winnie and Jimi start picking sunflower seeds but they still have to learn how to swallow the stuff. At the moment they pick it up but then it falls out of their beak again. Looks very funny and very clumsy.

I finally decided to remove the nest with Emma’s egg – I feel bad but this cannot continue like that. The next day she had already forgotten about it and did not look for it any longer… This is birth control for the sake of the pigeons…

See Emma sitting on her egg still while hubby is doing his work out…

And here they are now again: Winnie and Jimi – our new pigeon pets. The time period where you can play with them like this until they start to go their own way is much too short…

And here is hubby doing his work out and his two regular companions: Emma and Pete who also just love company…

  1. very sweet pics and stories indeed. I had the good fortune to have my balcony turned into a pigeon maternity ward as well. I named mine Bert and Ernie. 🙂 This morning, though, Bert left the nest and it’s just Ernie. I’m worried Ernie will get lonely and/or that something is wrong. Any advice?

    • Hello Kevin,
did they sit on eggs or babies? Unfortunately you cannot do anything if Bert does not return. Can you tell me more what the current situation is?
