From the

Diary from 5/17/2008

The kiddos are looking like adults now but their behaviour is still that of baby pigeons. Both can fly perfectly now – showboating from time to time as if to prove their new abilities – especially Joey seems to be the racing pilot of the family. You would not believe what kind of manoeuvres he accomplishes – he does in the air what a rabbit does being chased by a fox – darting sideways in the air. It looks awesome.

Today it was nice warm weather and the whole pigeon family used the water bowl as swimming pool. It was the total chaos. Imagine 4 pigeons together in a bowl that measures no more than a foot!! I have shot so many pictures and still could not decide which ones to throw away.

In the end there was no water left in the bowl…

Here comes a whole bunch of lovely photos – therefore I created a slideshow for you:

  1. Thanks for your comment, but since you happen to know a lot about these birds, what can I do to keep them off for good? I don’t hate them, we’re just not allowed to have them rest on our balconies.

  2. Mitsu – sorry but who says that? And why should YOU do anything about it when someone else does not want them to “rest”? I don’t quite understand your problem.

  3. Hey you,
I’ve just looked through your latest posts and pictures and they’re really a treat to look at, lovely photos!
I haven’t been watching our balcony a lot lately, but earlier this week we found another baby pigeon in the corner!
I’m really thinking we should get some food for the pigeons, maybe that way I can bond with them a bit more. 🙂

  4. Hey Suza (did you change your name? LOL),
    thanks for visiting again.
Do you take photos again? Your couple seems to breed only one baby but maybe that’s because they have less space.
If you want to do them something good give them sunflower seeds (the bare ones without the shell) – that’s pure energy food for them and very healthy. Ours love these most but I give them only a few each day and then only once – like goodies for a dog.
It is so much better to supply pigeons with a few healthy seeds and have an eye on their fertility (we put the eggs away from time to time) than to chase them away or treat them as vermin or even torture them as people do.

The officials do not understand that it is much more humane and also a much better treatment if they would supply pigeon houses at public places – then the pigeons would use those instead of looking for different places (which seems to be so annoying for most people). Pigeons get used to one place and return again and again. This way population could be controlled much easier and illnesses etc. But the officials are too ignorant to change their attitudes not to speak of the general public.
