The first Step into an independant Life…

From the

Diary from 5/13/2008

It’s 4 weeks now that the pigeon babies digged their way out of the egg into this world. They nearly look like adult pigeons now besides a few thin needle feathers poking out of their new feather dress still. And you can see it from their faces, especially their eyes how young they still are.

Looking like an adult pigeon is one thing – but flying like an adult a completely different.

The parents try to lure them farther away from their nest, cooing and showing them how to jump and fly and then – I nearly got a heart attack – Willy took a leap and was walking on the ballustrade of the balcony.

Oh my – don’t fall off – little Willy – I prayed. I think I was as excited as she was (I am sure now she is a “she” , as of 6/12/08.) Looking into those depths it must have been a delirious view for little Willy.

And bold as she is she slept on the board with both parents for the first time and Joey was alone in his nest and looked awfully sad. Poor Joey – he was not the same caliber as his sister…

But why should I be astonished about that????

The feeding feast….

just getting a few sunflower seeds, corn, splitted peas etc.

Joey stretching his wing muscles….

A conspirational talk? about what?

And this is Willy’s ominous walk on the ballustrade…

  1. They’ve gotten so big and pretty!
Frankie’s doing well and he still comes back every day with his parents, and a mysterious 4th pigeon.
About a month ago there were 2 new eggs in the nest, but a few days later they had kicked them out of the nest, I don’t know why, maybe they were infertile? But the family’s still doing well!

  2. Hi Aydin,
I have seen those lovely photos of your pigeon family. So beautiful all 3 of them. Glad to hear that they are returning to your balcony also! It’s like having pets – isn’t it?
In the meanwhile our Emma has laid 2 eggs again – so the whole story is repeating again. I wonder what is going to happen with Willy and Joey…will be thrilling
