Winnie and Willy sleeping in Pigeon City again!

4/22/ – 4/23 – Winnie and Willy are sleeping together on the balcony in pigeon city again – so their babies apparently are grown enough to be left alone. They appear often during the day and eat like crazy. They are probably eating for four!

Emma has left her plaster eggs. She realizes quicker and quicker when the eggs will not hatch. Now she is flirting with Pete again. So there will be some new eggs soon again. Oh my – she has become an egg-laying-machine. But what can I do?

At least I could take off the roof of the nest, loosen up all the soil and clean it up a bit for the next “breeding cycle”.

4/24 – Tonight Jimi was sleeping in pigeon city and Willy was also here but alone – without Winnie.  And little Erwin was sleeping in pigeon city as well.  Apparently Pete did not want to chase him away. Winnie apparently slept with her kiddos again  in order to keep them warm because of the very cold wind (my assumption). Even Pete and Emma were huddling together – although I have never seen them sleeping so close together! Pete normally does not like it when Emma sits so close! He is very peculiar about his sleeping place. He is the patron! But the night was so cold and windy that he apparently needed Emma to keep the warmth. Sounds so humanlike – doesn’t it?

During the days we had quite a few pigeons which apparently chose our balcony as a safe harbour against the cold and the wind. So we suddenly had quite a lot of travellers here:

Second Egg for Schlomskaja and another new Visitor

Diary as of 2/23/ – 3/8/09

Schlomskaja has laid her second egg today – I removed it of course. That’s why they desperately tried to build a nest here on the balcony and Pete got nearly crazy. He cannot allow a second couple to breed here. THAT IS REALLY IMPOSSIBLE!

2/23 – 2/28 nothing really special besides the new citizens: Little Obama – he is a sweet one too, completely dark but not really black with eye rings… he seems to be a companion of Angelino – they often appear together.

I am missing Socks but Stockings is still there, also Blessy. There are a couple of new ones which I cannot identify because they all have that checker morph. Very difficult to identify. Also the birds change so quickly that I don’t have the time to make out a special mark.

I am happy that Joey appears more often again. He has become quite shy but he still remembers the noise I made with the little seed pot with the red lid and comes feeding. This is a great feeling.

3/1 – 3/8 Freiburg – buried my Mom on the 4th. I am terribly sad. She loved my stories about “my” pigeons.

Meetings in Cold weather…

It is still very cold and it is fun to watch who is coming with whom:

there are Mr. and Mrs. Smith, two very dark pigeons who looks abslutely similar, only the size is different. They are a bit bossy and self-assured.  Mr.Smith is fighting with Pete from time to time but in the end Pete is always defending his home!

Then there is Mrs. White Stocking and Mr. White Socks, also 2 pigeons that look similar – with a very beautiful and elegant pattern. You will see a couple of photos below.

Then there is a new one – Smoky – who’s feathers are somewhat brownish on her chest – I am sure she is a girl, simply because she is quite small, a little bit cheeky and Pete is courting her. He does not court any males!

Then there are Mr. and Mrs. Jones, he looks like Mr. Smith, she is a checkered one. Not so bossy like Mr. Smith but rather shy.

Then of course  we have Mr. Black and Igi, the beautiful back pigeon and a nice checkered one – Igi is the replacement of Hillary, who is the girlfriend of our Jimi, as you know.

And finally there is Mr. Schlomo and Mrs. Schlomskaja, grey pigeons which look like our Jimi but are different of course. Of course there is no-one like Jimi!

Fake Eggs and an impertinent Visitor…

Diary as of 8/27/ – 9/3/08

Today (08/27) Emma layed another egg – this I am going to fill with oil also. Am not sure whether this is really a good idea after the fiasko with the first one but I have no better idea currently how I could stop that breeding program…

What a cute picture – not only Jimi sleeping with Winnie on the sideboard but also Willy and Joey are here for the night again.

Emma perfectly accepted the second oil egg as if nothing had happened.

Willy again slept on the balcony with Daddy, Winnie and Jimi….

What a sweet family again – they all belong together and seem to recognize one another as part of the family gang. I wonder how logn this will last…

Every day little things happen but nothing really spectacular besides we had a visitor again who became quite impertinent.  I do not know yet what I am going to do with this black guy – he looks marvellous, he is funny and obviously has a craze – he is always standing on one leg and plays a stork.  But he is also very bossy and tries to fight with Pete which I don’t like at all. This is Pete’s home! He behaves  like a sticky bum and I don’t want Pete to fight with him all the time. Here he is:

Oh my goodness me – an imposter appeared on the balcony today – a huge black pigeon! Is this the bogey man? Apparently not because Pete and kiddos seem to know this guy… but nevertheless I call him the bogeyman – he is huge
